The Suzuri stone is the traditional Japanese ink stone used to prepare Sumi ink. Its flat, gently sloping surface forms a small well at one end where the liquid ink collects. Size: 5" x 2 ½" (~ 12.7 x 6.4 cm). Composition: natural stone powder + binder, moulded under high pressure. Use: grind a Sumi ink stick on the surface with a little water to produce liquid ink.
